(Matthew’s pocket watch had hit noon. He was going to Grace’s for lunch but had a telegram to send first) Matthew: Horace, I need you to send this telegram. It’s to Denver. (He gave Horace a note stating what should be said in the telegram. While the telegram was being sent, the 12 O’clock train pulled into the station. Matthew glanced briefly at the train and the first passengers coming out. He then turned to face Horace again, who had finished sending the short telegram. Matthew began finding some pennies for payment)

Sitting in the carriage on the train, Emma thought about her experiences she felt lucky to have had within Boston. She had been there for nearly 6 years. Holding in her hand was letters that belonged to Matthew, that she had written but never posted, she had always wrote to him, but some how through the years, the ones she held in her hand were the ones that held so much emotion, truth and well, her love for him forever growing as the distance and time kept expanding, but had found herself never to enable to post them, worried Matthew had moved on. Standing up as the Train stopped. The young woman, placed the letters into her carpet bag and pushed her dark brunette wavy hair from her face. Holding her bag in one hand, she came down the steps and for the first time in ages, a genuine smile came to her lips. She had missed this place, missed the people and the air. Walking slowly, taking in the changes of the town she came across a familiar face. A face that she had fell in love with, a face that she still loved.

(Matthew paid Horace the needed payment and began to walk away from the telegraph office with his face lowered down. Without knowing, he moved closer and closer towards the girl he never thought he ever was to see again. Without looking directly, Matthew could feel that someone was coming towards him. Without hesitation he looked up and for the first time in many years, he was speechless. A sudden chill and surprise came over him, because there in front of him, was standing no other than the girl he long ago had fallen in love with and had never forgotten. As Emma moved closer, Matthew just stood there without blinking in silence, like he was frozen in time. Finally he was able to bring his first, but only word he could express in the situation) Matthew: E-Emma? (His heart pounded. Was this a dream he thought…) **Tag Emma**

Emma looked up hearing the voice; her heart began to beat faster. The voice filled her with hope, with joy and memories. Looking into his eyes, Emma took a much needed deep breath. "Matthew" she breathed out quietly. The smile, on her lips didn’t fade, but became wider. Her eyes glistened as the sun caught them, yet they just kept staring into Matthew’s, getting lost within his soul. She tried to speak but the words just came jumbled. “Matthew, time no see”. Still in shock she felt her spirit rise from her body and that she was now looking down on the situation, hearing herself speak, the young woman laughed. The laughter that filled the sky was the thing that brought Emma back to reality of the circumstances. “Sorry” she said softly now looking away from Matthew’s face. She felt the need to hug him rise within herself, but Emma tried to push it down, the tears of overwhelming joy and love for the man who stood in front of her, appeared in her eyes. “I-I missed you” she said very quietly, now looking down at Matthew’s shoes. Looking up once more, she began to take in the small details of his face; his nose, freckles, lips and eyes. She felt her cheeks redden with embarrassment as she stood there and the words that were uttered a few seconds ago, lingered in the air.

(Emma’s last words came with such a surprise and such overwhelming feeling, that Matthew embraced her with a sudden, but long-lasting warming hug. As he held her in his arms he gently with a soft voice replied her) Matthew: I’ve missed you too.. (As he leaned back, he looked upon her with a smile. It was hard for him to say the right things as there was so much he wanted to know and share) Matthew: I haven’t heard from you since...(he paused) What made you come back?

Emma saw Matthew’s reaction and before she could respond, he had taken her into his arms and they both embraced each other. Slowly, Emma put her arms around him and leaned into his body, hugging him gently back; the young woman felt the hug lasting, her own feelings now becoming more dominant within herself. Yet hearing Matthew’s words, her heart fluttered ‘Had he said the same words back?’Closing her eyes, the words echoed in her ears, ‘He had’ she thought silently, this then made Emma not just physically smile, but smile inside to. Her feelings for the man that stood in front of her made her want to cry with overwhelming joy and love, but she knew she shouldn’t. Looking into his eyes, Emma heard the question. She had came back for him, came back, because the feelings within her were to strong and they pulled her back, back to the man who stood in front of her with a genuine smile. Her eyes diverted from his as she tried to search for the words to explain the reason why she was back, but when she looked back up, searching his face, the young woman smiled softy and whispered the one word that came into her mind, “you”.

(He wasn’t sure if he heard right and quietly whispered back with uncertainty in his voice) Matthew: Me? (This moment was not how he had imagined it. After all these years without hearing from her and suddenly she was here in front of him saying the most unthinkable thing) Matthew: But, all this time? Emma, I haven’t heard from you in almost four years. I don’t know where to start. Where’ve you been these past years? (He tried getting the facts right, it was just too much to hear that he was the main reason for her return)

Emma watched as Matthew took a step back, her eyes searched his face and to her horror it was not the reaction she had expected. “I…I-“ she started, shaking her head from side to side, her thoughts going crazing in her head. The young woman took a step back from Matthew as she tried to speak. “i-I’ve been trying..trying to tell you but” again as she spoke her head shook gently, her brunette hair blowing as a breeze came quietly around the corner. Taking another step back, Emma went to turn away; she had put her heart on the line and didn’t have the reaction she wanted. She felt hurt inside, but tried not to show it. But Emma could not stop her eyes filling up, not with the overwhelming love but with sadness now. With her face turned away from Matthew she went to go, but felt the pressure of a hand on her arm, a hand making sure she stayed. She stopped in her tracks and took a deep breath before turning to look slightly at Matthew. Now confused, the young woman didn’t know what Matthew wanted or how he felt. She went to go, but he pulled her back. Did that mean he still had an ounce of love in his heart for her? Emma thought that she had put her heart on the line just a few minutes before, what more could a few more seconds do. So she turned to look at Matthew, staying, yet now feeling Vulnerable and weak.

Matthew: Emma wait... I didn’t mean to.. (He looked at her, feeling sorry for her, of what she had expected of him. Deep inside he could feel that he still loved her, but those feelings were so distant now that he couldn’t express or put them into words) Matthew: Listen, why don’t I take you to Grace’s for lunch? I was heading there myself and, well I was hoping you would tell me what’s been going on in your life. (He looked deep in her eyes with a determined expression having a tender smile on his lips) Matthew: Please Emma, I want to know… (He pulled out his arm, bending it, showing he wanted to escort her to lunch)

‘I-I’ Emma started and turned away from Matthew, thinking what more could possibly go wrong if she went with him. He had said after all he wanted she had been doing. Turning her face to him she quietly nodded her head. Pulling her shawl closer to her body she took Matthews arm and started to slowly make her way with him to Graces Café. Emma smiled warmly at the man who held her arm. Remembering the last time this happened she looked to Matthew and noticed how he had changed on the outside, she just felt hopeful that his feelings hadn’t. “Matthew, lunch would be swell” she said to him with a glisten in her eyes.

(Matthew felt glad about Emma accepting his offer and smiled to her warmly while he walked side of her, arm in arm) Matthew: As you can see, much hasn’t changed since you left town. (They walked down the main street, glancing around the surroundings, and made a turn to the right, entering Grace’s Café) **Continues at Grace’s Café - Click Here**
