CHAPTER ONE
Soleil was banging on her roommate’s bedroom door. "Rhapsody….Rhapsody" Slamming her fist harder, "Get up damn it or we will be late for work!"
Grumbling, Rhapsody rolled out of bed, calling out, "Coming. I’m coming." she grabbed a pair of jeans and a shirt off of her computer chair, quickly slipped them on, and left.
The two girls were walking back from work. Rhapsody spent most of the walk home picking cheerios from her hair, while Soleil laughed at her.
"I can’t believe you got us a job at a freaking daycare." Rhapsody complained while throwing a cheerio to the floor.
Laughing, "Hey at least it’s a job. And out of pure luck they pay us well. Just be glad these rich people don’t want their kids around." Soleil reminded her.
"I still hate kids. They are always screaming, crying, having runny noises, and eating paste. It’s totally disgusting. No wonder the rich send their kids away."
Soleil tried convincing Rhapsody that kids are not all as bad as they seem as they were walking through the metal gate to their house. The house was a two story, two and a half bath. Two rooms were upstairs along with two full bathrooms that they could get to from their rooms or the hallway. When you walked through the door, the stairs greeted you and off to the left just a little. The kitchen was to the right. It had an island in the middle with some stools on one side. The living room was connected to the kitchen with a gap between the stools and the couch for people to walk through. The half bathroom was under the stairs. They had a den that was off to the left when you walked into the house, but they fixed it up and made it into a spare room. What they loved a lot about the house was the wrap around porch. Rhapsody and Soleil got the house when they were in college. Their parents had helped them get it and as the years went by they slowly fixed it up. Now, years after school ended, they had the place exactly to their liking. Soleil and Rhapsody have been friends since freshman year of high school. They met in detention, Soleil was in detention for spitting on a girl while she tried to cheat off her during a test. Rhapsody was in detention for punching some girl for calling her a slut.
As Soleil unlocked the front door and walked in, she looked behind her to Rhapsody "Still wish…"
Once they were over the threshold of house, they were sucked through some hole. Then, almost as soon as they were pulled in, they were thrown out. Soleil and Rhapsody were thrust onto the floor, knocking them both out. Rhapsody suddenly woke sitting up with a jolt. She looked around the room noticing it wasn’t any room she recognized. Everything came flooding back including where Soleil was. Rhapsody quickly lifted herself out of bed, grabbing the pitcher as she scuffled behind the door. She brought the pitcher above her head as the door open. When she saw a head, she brought it down hard, knocking the person out. Not checking to see who it was, she ran out of the room. Checking the doors, Rhapsody found Soleil behind the second door. Crouching next to the bed, Rhapsody began to shake Soleil.
"Dude wake up. Dude Soleil wake up." Shaking her harder.
Soleil woke up with a gasp and Rhapsody quickly covered her mouth. Rhapsody brought a finger to her mouth. Soleil licked Rhapsody’s hand. She made a disgusted face as she wiped her hand on her jeans.
"Where are we? What happened?" Soleil asked as she looked around the room.
Rhapsody shrugged. "All I know is we're not in Kansas anymore. Let's get out of here."
"Very funny." said Soleil as she got out of the bed.
They rushed out of the room and down the hall. As they ran down the stairs and through the door but they immediately stopped when they saw Dr. Quinn and Colleen. Not knowing who they were, they saw the front door and ran out. They slid to a halt in the middle of the road. Some of the towns people were outside, waiting for them to wake up. Both Soleil and Rhapsody’s jaw dropped as they spun slowly in a circle trying to take in what they were seeing. Everyone was staring at them in amazement, whispering. Dr. Quinn and Colleen walked up beside them touching their arms. Rhapsody and Soleil jumped when they felt their hands on their arms.
"Why don’t you come inside and see if everything is ok." Said the older women.
They followed them back inside, as everyone gathered around the windows trying to look inside. Dr. Quinn and Colleen pulled the shades down. They noticed a scruffy looking man with his hand on his head in the room.
"I’m Dr. Michaela Quinn, this is Colleen and that is my fiancé Sully." Dr. Quinn pointed to everyone as she spoke slowly.
Rhapsody kept staring at Sully, so Soleil spoke up, "Oh, you don’t have to speak like that. We understand you perfectly. But I am Soleil and she is Rhapsody." Soleil pointed.
"I’m sorry about your head. I hope I didn’t bring it down to hard." Rhapsody apologized.
"I’ll be fine." Said Sully.
"Could you by any chance tell us where we are?" Soleil asked.
Rhapsody looked at Dr. Quinn and Colleen, "Ya, and what year is it?"
This time Colleen answered, "Colorado Springs, the year 1860."
"WHAT?!" Soleil and Rhapsody called in sync.
They both started to have trouble breathing. Dr. Quinn gave them something to calm down.
"Could you tell us by any chance how we got here?" Asked Rhapsody
Sarcastically Soleil said, "Oh ya, if we don’t know how we got here then they sure as hell don’t know how we got here."
"We don’t know how but Sully here found you both unconscious in front of your house I guess." Dr. Quinn told them.
They sat up enthused to hear that they had their house. Since they seemed to be ok when Dr. Quinn did a check up on them. So she, Colleen and Sully took them to their house. When they got the their house their door was wide open. Rhapsody and Soleil ran inside to see their house had some unwanted guest. An old man with gray hair and a women who could be his wife with this really red hair were in the kitchen checking out the fridge. A black man with massive arms stood next to this tiny women in the kitchen as well checking out the pots and pans. In the living room was this really tall man with black hair who reminded them of Goofy, was standing next to a guy with blonde hair that came to his shoulder and a little boy who looking like his brother. They were completely memorized by everything that was in the living room, from the TV to the couch.
Soleil cleared her throat, "Exactly what do you all think you are doing in our house?" Everyone jumped and gaped at the new guest.
"Who the hell do you all think you are? The cops? Stop snooping around our home." Gripped Rhapsody.
Everyone apologized repeatedly as Dr. Quinn introduced everyone. The red head was Dorothy Jennings who managed the Gazette and wrote for it. The old man was Loren Bray who managed and worked in the mercantile. Guess they weren’t married thought Soleil and Rhapsody. The black couple was Grace who managed the café which was named after her and Robert E who managed the liver. The guy who reminded them of goofy was Horace Bing who managed the Telegraph and Post Office. The two that were with him were Dr. Quinn’s other kids Matthew and Brian. Everyone heard movement upstairs and looked to the ceiling. When Rhapsody and Soleil went upstairs the others closely followed. The noise came from Rhapsody’s room. The door was slightly ajar, so they slowly and quietly opened the door. Their was a tall dirty long hair, dirty blonde guy at her closet who looked like he was in a real need of a shave and haircut. The man had one of her mini black dresses in his hands. The other man was tall as well more cleaner with dirty blonde looking hair as well. He was at her underwear drawer holding up a thong.
"That dress is so you. And you over there by my underwear drawer, you want to put my thong back? Just a thought." Rhapsody said leaning again her door frame with her arms crossed. Soleil was on the other side of the door. The men jumped dropping both the garments in their hands.
"This is how you greet new people? Going though their homes and their belongings? And what are you talking about Rhapsody? That color dress on the long hair dude is so not right for him." Soleil chuckled.
Tilting her head, "You're right Soleil. Wrong color. Who are you two anyway?"
"I’m Hank. I own the Saloon, and if you ladies are interested in a job, I have an opening for you." He smiled as he walked over to them.
"Eww, I would so rather throw up my lungs than work for someone so dirty looking." Soleil said.
"Totally. I agree. Throwing up my lungs sounds so much better." Smirked Rhapsody. Hank just smirked and walked away.
"I’m Jake Slicker, Mayor here of this town." He went over to shake their hands.
Soleil rolled her eyes and walked off. Rhapsody smiled. "Just because you're mayor, doesn’t give you the rights to rummage through a chick’s underwear drawer. Next time try asking." She motioned for him to get moving.
Rhapsody smiled at Jake as he slide past her in the doorway. Everyone went back downstairs and cleared out of the house. They plopped on the couch at the same time, letting out a gust of air.
"Well this has been a very fun filled and interesting day." Soleil commented
"Oh, ya. Last thing I remember is clearing cheerios out of my hair." said Rhapsody
Looking over to her, Soleil said, "But it was worth it seeing those men going through your room." and she started to laugh.
"No, kind of creepy. Well the part with that guy Hank going through my closet." Rhapsody looked to Soleil.
"You aren't crushing already on the mayor, are you?" Soleil sat up on the couch.
Putting her pointer finger and thumb inches from each other, "Just a little. But I was thinking of calling him Slicker cuz it just sounds funny and dirty." Rhapsody smirked.
"Dude it does sound funny and dirty. You should, see if it bugs him." Soleil began to laugh and Rhapsody joined in.
Soleil was banging on her roommate’s bedroom door. "Rhapsody….Rhapsody" Slamming her fist harder, "Get up damn it or we will be late for work!"
