(OOC - I just copy the part sent in the mailing list wrote by Elizabeth!)
With one hand resting on top of her swollen stomach, Teresa opened the door to their house and walked inside, making her way over to the over-stuffed chair she awkwardly leaned back into it.
Teresa lay her head back on the back of the chair thankful to be again off her feet. She had enjoyed going for a short walk around town but she was tired. Though Dr. Mike had told her exercise was good for her and her baby.
Teresa was also worried but she didn't show that to her husband. Jake had acted, strange as they walked not talkative as he usually was with her. She noticed he avoided looking in her eyes when he talked to her.
"It won't be long now honey," Teresa said looking up at her husband with a warm smile on her face. "Just think we are about to become parents, it's truly hard to believe."
Jake turned away from his wife, he didn't want Teresa to see the worried look on his face, with each passing day the realization was sinking in deeper he was going to be a father.
"Yes, I know, it's all I think of lately" Jake said. Trying not to sound worried even though he was. Worried not only about the birth and of father hood but also worried how Teresa would re-act when she found out he was going out of town for a few days. Jake cleared his throat, this was as good a time as any to tell Teresa.
"Sweetheart, I need to speak with you about something" Jake said looking over to Teresa.
"Okay mayor, is everything okay? I have a feeling something is bothering you."
"Well, it's just that there is something I need to take care of and... Well, I need to go out of town for a few days." Jake watched Teresa's reaction as he broke the news.
"Out of town?" Teresa asked. With a deep look of surprise and worry on her face.
I know it's a big shock but there is something really important I need to do. "Jake I don't understand! What is so important that you need to leave now?"
Jake thought about his answer to this, he couldn't tell her of his surprise he would need to think of something else.
"Uh, Well, you see Loren ask me for his help, See Loren needs to go to Denver to pick up supplies he had special ordered."
"Well, why can't someone else go with Loren?" Teresa asked with a puzzled look on her face.
"Well, Sweetheart it's just that Loren is such a good friend to me and he has done a lot for me, I feel that I owe him."
Teresa wasn't taking this well Jake could see he was hoping he could find a way to make her understand.
"Sweetheart, I know you are worried with this being so close to your due date but I promise I won't be gone long and you won't be alone I'll make sure someone is close by in case you need anything."
"Jake, I just don't understand how you could leave me now!" Teresa was angry and began to weep as she thought of him leaving.
"Please Sweetie don't cry, I know this isn't the best time but it won't be for long, please understand?"
Teresa scoffed at Jake's words, no she didn't and wouldn't understand.
"I can't believe you Jake Slicker! I suppose you want to go have fun like the days of your past you and Loren, I know a lot I've heard people talk of the things you've done. Then go!"
With that Teresa pulled herself up as quickly as she could and walked into the bed room slamming the door and locking it behind her.
Jake tried to open the door, "Please sweetheart let me in so we can talk this over some more."
Teresa said nothing from the other side of the door but Jake could hear her sobs. Jake leaned his head against his arm on the door. He truly hadn't planned on Teresa taking it this way.
Perhaps he shouldn't go, maybe he should just tell Loren to forget about it? It would ruin his surprise but with Teresa so upset with him.
Jake walked away from the door over to his chair he sat holding his head in his hand and thinking of what he was going to do now…
